Short answer. A try dive takes about half a day. You learn the basics in shallow water, then dive at 5 to 12 m with an instructor beside you. You do not need to be certified or a strong swimmer, but you must be 10 or older. With us it is $70 for the Try Diving Experience or $110 for PADI Discover Scuba Diving.
| Try Diving Experience | $70 (1 dive) · $105 (2 dives) · to 5–10 m · not a PADI programme |
|---|---|
| PADI Discover Scuba Diving | $110 (1 dive) · $150 (2 dives) · to 12 m · counts toward Open Water |
| Minimum age | 10 |
| Start time | 8:00 am |
| Dive time | 35–40 minutes |
What happens, step by step
- We pick you up from your hotel for free (within about 5 km and from Mirissa).
- A short briefing on the basics and a medical questionnaire.
- You practise breathing and a few simple skills in shallow water.
- We take the boat to the dive site, 15 to 20 minutes away.
- You dive with an instructor beside you, at 5 to 12 m, for 35 to 40 minutes.
Try Diving Experience or PADI Discover Scuba Diving?
Both are first dives with an instructor. The Try Diving Experience is our simple intro, up to 5 to 10 m, and not a PADI programme. PADI Discover Scuba Diving goes to 12 m, includes a little more skill practice, and counts toward your Open Water Diver course if you decide to continue.
Common worries
- I am not a good swimmer. You need to be comfortable in water, not fast.
- My ears. We teach you how to equalise and go slowly. If it hurts, you stop.
- Claustrophobia. You are in the open sea with an instructor beside you. Say so at the briefing and we go at your pace.
- Medical conditions. Some need a doctor's sign-off, so ask us before you book.
What to bring
Swimwear, a towel, sun protection and a dry change of clothes. All equipment, tanks and weights are included. Eat a light breakfast.
